Celtic FC roots are firmly in Ireland. Founded in 1888 by Brother Walfrid to raise funds for the suffering Irish immigrants to Glasgow, Celtic and Ireland have been synonymous since then. Thousands make the weekly or bi-weekly pilgrimage from all parts of Ireland over to Glasgow to see the boys in green play, echoing the journey made by the Irish that left Ireland because of famine, poverty and British mis-rule.
